Job Description and Duties

The CalSTRS Human Resources Division is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to work as a Staff Services Manager I (Supervisory) in the Training Services Unit. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing the Learning Experience Design team and overseeing the development and delivery of enterprise-wide employee development and training programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the Learning Experience Design team and oversee the development and delivery of training programs.
  • Consult with CalSTRS Learning Delivery Manager, leadership across the organization, and business areas on learning and development content design activities to ensure alignment with the strategic plan and organizational goals.
  • Lead Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) learning strategies and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify training needs and develop solutions to address them.
  • Develop and implement training programs that meet the needs of CalSTRS employees and align with the organization's strategic goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly assess organizational needs/culture and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Highly relational with the ability to interact effectively with management and staff at all levels to objectively evaluate information solicited.
  • Solutions-oriented problem solver who thinks creatively and has a track record of innovative practices.
  • Strong organizational awareness and emotional intelligence with demonstrated ability to build relationships across functions, departments, and levels.
  • Desire to embrace both quantitative and qualitative data/analysis to guide decision-making.
  • Consultative and curious mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Organized thinking and communication skills, and a willingness to engage in both strategic design and tactical implementation.
  • Proactive with the ability to take initiative to problem solve and offer credible solutions.
  • Strong business acumen with an ability to address people-related challenges within the context of learning and development, DEI, and organizational culture.
