Field Service Controls Specialist


The Field Service Controls Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment at client locations, addressing both warranty and non-warranty concerns. This role involves generating service quotations, processing service orders, and ensuring the successful execution of service contracts. The specialist acts as the primary service contact for key customer accounts.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues at customer sites, making necessary adjustments to restore equipment functionality.

Access and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs, utilizing trends and debugging tools for effective problem-solving.

Implement programming modifications for equipment upgrades or retrofits.


Set up and configure servos, VFDs, remote I/O, Ethernet, and Profibus networks, along with other electronic control systems.

Interpret mechanical drawings and electrical/pneumatic schematics.

Conduct troubleshooting of electrical panels.

Operate machinery to demonstrate functionality and analyze operational issues.

Oversee operators and maintenance personnel in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment for optimal performance.

Provide feedback to management regarding customer satisfaction and product performance, suggesting improvements as necessary.

Collaborate with customers and management to plan equipment layouts during transitions.

Address service inquiries over the phone when feasible.

Work with suppliers to resolve technical challenges at customer locations.

Travel to domestic and international client sites as required.

Recommend repairs or replacements only for items that necessitate such actions.

Adhere to client safety protocols while on-site.

Complete detailed service reports promptly for all services rendered.


Follow up with clients to ensure issues are resolved or to schedule further assistance if needed.

Provide guidance on warranty versus non-warranty matters.

Stay updated on current products and equipment utilized at ATS.


Be available for on-call duties on a rotational basis, providing support to non-service personnel as needed.

Strive to meet or exceed customer expectations efficiently.

Conduct accurate equipment audits and generate reports.

Guide and instruct team members in the servicing and repair of equipment.

Consult with engineering teams to address unique operational and maintenance challenges.

Deliver monthly reports summarizing activities from the previous month.

Maintain or surpass departmental work utilization standards.

Assist other departmental staff as directed by the Service Manager.

Ensure compliance with International Standardization Organization (ISO) standards.

Familiarity with NEC and NFPA 79, as well as international electrical standards, is essential.

Adhere to all ATS company policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred degree in an engineering-related field or equivalent experience.

Three to six years of experience in a hands-on mechanical/electrical setting.

Proficiency with Rockwell PLCs, HMIs, and servo control systems is preferred.

Ability to thrive in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment, often under pressure and strict deadlines.

Experience in customer interaction to resolve issues is essential.

Capability to read and interpret drawings, reference manuals, and assembly instructions is crucial.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to quickly acquire knowledge to identify components of an assembly.

Strong interpersonal and commercial skills are required.
