Role Summary:

The Fiber Transport Specialist will be responsible for coordinating all fiber-optic solutions to facilitate the integration of new technologies through upgrades and new construction projects.

This role will involve planning, designing, and executing IP assignments and management, maintaining documentation, and ensuring effective communication through internal tools for fiber connectivity initiatives.

The Specialist will work closely with various teams, including RF Design, Network Assurance, Construction, Real Estate, and Telecommunications Vendors, to enhance fiber designs for both new and existing technologies while ensuring clarity in IP assignments for new RF radio and baseband configurations.

The team collaborates regularly to assess and optimize the transport network, which includes fronthaul, backhaul, and microwave systems.

The Fiber Transport team is tasked with creating, designing, and issuing Work Orders, as well as engineering new cell sites and expanding existing MSCs with LTE and C-band carrier additions.

Proficiency in LIT Ethernet and Dark Fiber is essential.
This position entails a technical role with comprehensive oversight of multiple transport solutions.

Key skills required include IP assignment, knowledge of 10G cell site routers, dark fiber, and microwave network design.

As a vital member of this team, you will contribute significantly to our network transformation efforts aimed at establishing a unified network across all business lines and maintaining the technology that connects millions of customers.


Position Objectives:
  • Minimize costs related to Direct Telecom expenses.
  • Develop a monthly interconnect implementation strategy to enhance Ethernet backhaul bandwidth to 10G.
  • Migrate core network connectivity to 100G NNI paths.
  • Manage telecom vendors to achieve targeted network milestones and activation dates.
  • Participate in project update meetings to provide technical solutions and issue work orders to field engineering teams.
  • Adopt current methods and procedures for interconnect tracking.
  • Validate closeout packages for completed work.
  • Collaborate with field/systems Network Assurance teams to facilitate fiber connectivity activation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Transport design within the telecommunications sector.
  • Familiarity with CWDM/DWDM Optical Transport systems.
  • Experience with Dark Fiber vendors, ordering processes, and network portfolio management.
  • Proficiency in microwave design software.
  • Experience with circuit database tracking.
  • Competence in standard office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% for circuit delivery coordination.
