Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse

As a vital member of the radiation oncology team, the Radiation Oncology Nurse collaborates closely with the Radiation Oncologist to ensure comprehensive patient care. This role involves developing and executing personalized care plans tailored to each patient's unique needs.
The nurse is responsible for educating patients about treatment options, including implants and brachytherapy, while also gathering essential medical histories and assisting with physical examinations. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments, formulate, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
- Monitor and document the physical and psychological responses to radiation treatment, responding promptly to any acute changes in patient conditions. - Provide telephonic support for patients facing treatment challenges and perform essential nursing procedures such as suture removal and IV therapy. - Manage medication orders and dispensing under the guidance of the Radiation Oncologist, ensuring accurate documentation of clinical data, including lab results and imaging studies. - Facilitate patient transfers and admissions, acting as a liaison between referring physicians and the radiation oncology team. - Ensure compliance with state regulations and JCAHO standards concerning radiation safety and patient protection. - Participate in ongoing education and training sessions to stay updated on policies, procedures, and safety protocols, while also mentoring radiation therapy students in the department. - Maintain thorough and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), capturing vital signs, medical history, and treatment orders. - Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and adhere to proper billing practices for all procedures performed. - Address the specific needs of diverse patient populations, ensuring that care is tailored to age-specific requirements.Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
- BLS-CPR certification is mandatory, with prior oncology nursing experience preferred.
