Job Overview

The Port Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency of our fleet at Dann Marine Towing. This position is responsible for overseeing the training and compliance of all vessel engineers with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Port Engineer will:

  • Address any discrepancies and deficiencies promptly.
  • Supervise maintenance, repair, modifications, and refurbishment projects to ensure they are completed efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Engineering to develop specifications for dry-docking, vendor bid packages, and project evaluations.
  • Monitor contractors and shipyards during maintenance and repair activities.
  • Conduct on-site assessments of vessels and equipment to identify maintenance and repair requirements.
  • Provide repair recommendations to the VP of Engineering.
  • Analyze technical issues and coordinate with relevant operations personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Familiarity with ABS - Sub M regulations.
  • 2-3 years of experience in shipyard repairs.
  • 3-5 years of sea experience as an engineer, with a preference for those who have served as Chief Engineer.
  • Required experience in Port Engineering within the maritime sector.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A results-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • The physical capability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 75 lbs.) and perform various physical tasks.
  • The ability to operate company vehicles and field tools.
  • Strong multitasking skills and sound judgment in evaluating situations.
  • Compliance with USCG Chemical Drug Testing Programs and the ability to pass a USCG physical examination.
Additional Requirements
  • TWIC certification is mandatory.
  • Experience with computerized preventive maintenance systems is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
