About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented GIS Analyst Intern to join our team in Denver, CO. As a GIS Analyst Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including data manipulation, management, and analysis, cartography, and developing automated GIS processes using a range of software environments.

Responsibilities
  • Perform geographic and non-geographic data manipulation, management, and analysis
  • Develop and use automated GIS processes using various software environments
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously, with a focus on delivering high-quality data products
  • Revise existing GIS layers and create new layers following established standards and procedures
  • Create high-quality maps, various GIS-based analyses, and data for reports to support engineering projects
  • Maintain best practices to support systems and data production
  • Engage with community contacts via telephone occasionally
  • Assist in the preparation of various analytical reports, agendas, sign-in sheets, and monthly progress reports suitable for meetings
  • Complete training on assigned tasks
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or related undergraduate program
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Demonstrated interest in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or related field, and a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
Preferred Qualifications
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or related master's degree or PhD program
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS online
  • Basic familiarity with programming languages (Python/Visual Basic)
  • Experience with CAD platforms and data exchange between CAD/GIS environments
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus
