Position Overview:
The Arizona Department of Public Safety is on the lookout for skilled and seasoned law enforcement professionals to join the newly established Major Incident Division (MID). This division is dedicated to conducting thorough investigations of significant incidents involving the use of firearms by peace officers during use-of-force situations.
As an agent, you will be responsible for executing criminal investigations and performing general police duties aimed at safeguarding life and property through the enforcement of laws and regulations, as well as crime prevention. Additional responsibilities will be assigned as necessary. This role is classified as uncovered, and the incumbent will serve at the discretion of the Director of the Department of Public Safety.
Essential Qualifications:
A minimum of twenty (20) years of law enforcement experience, including roles in investigative assignments.
Additional Requirements:
- Must hold and maintain AZ POST certification as a sworn peace officer or demonstrate the ability to obtain AZ POST Peace Officer certification within sixty (60) days of appointment.
- Successful completion of the AZ POST firearms qualification course is mandatory.
- Must be able to complete a 2-mile walk in under 40 minutes.
- Demonstrated capability to ascend twelve flights of stairs.
- A valid Arizona Driver's License is required at the time of employment.
- Travel may be necessary for certain job functions.
- Flexibility to work extended or irregular hours may be required.
- Availability to respond to hearings and court appearances as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Eight (8) years of experience in investigative roles, particularly in homicide investigations and officer-involved shootings.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Work may be conducted in both office and field environments.
- Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Responsiveness to crime scenes or critical incidents may be required.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, or bodily fluids may occur.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Candidates must undergo an examination process, including a polygraph and background investigation.
- A drug-free work environment is supported through pre-employment drug testing.
- If driving is essential for the role, compliance with Driver's License Requirements is necessary. All newly hired State employees must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
