Investigator Supervisor

We are seeking an experienced Investigator Supervisor to join our team at Maricopa County, AZ. As a key member of our Legal Defender's office, you will oversee a team of investigators and support staff, ensuring the successful execution of our defense strategies and case theories.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise and manage the performance of defender investigators, including conducting workload and progress meetings, coordinating leave and coverage, training in proper investigative techniques, handling disciplinary matters, preparing performance plans, and evaluating staff performance.
• Assign investigation requests to investigative staff and monitor workload, ensuring timely completion of tasks and effective use of resources.
• Assist in the development of defense strategies and case theories, providing guidance to attorneys to develop further investigative steps as warranted.
• Conduct field investigations with attorney approval, including visiting crime scenes, taking photographs, recording videos, locating and interviewing witnesses, preparing courtroom and crime scene diagrams.
• Review case documentation, update attorneys on progress, and recommend securing additional records and information that may be needed for the case.
• Obtain and evaluate physical and documentary evidence, prepare oral and written investigative reports, and maintain case files, logs, and case assignment statistics in an electronic format.
• Interact with attorneys, management, co-workers, clients, criminal authorities, related agencies, and interested parties, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
• Attend and testify in court proceedings, providing expert testimony and supporting the defense team's efforts.
Working Conditions
This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a team, communicate clearly, and adapt to changing circumstances. The position also requires the ability to travel to and from job-related locations, including travel in and out of state.
Requirements
• High school diploma or GED
• Five years of criminal defense investigative experience
• Successful completion of a background investigation
• Ability to possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

• Experience in an indigent defense office
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
