Position Overview:

The Stepdown Registered Nurse plays a critical role in delivering exceptional patient care within a fast-paced environment. This position involves comprehensive assessment, planning, and evaluation of patient care needs, ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments and develop individualized care plans for patients.
  • Implement physician orders effectively and efficiently.
  • Administer medications as prescribed, perform wound care, and monitor vital signs diligently.
  • Provide essential cardiopulmonary management and continuous monitoring for patients.
  • Act as the primary coordinator for interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Utilize computerized documentation systems to monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions.
  • Educate patients and their families on care plans and health management.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to assess and coordinate discharge planning needs.
  • Deliver culturally competent care tailored to the age and needs of patients.
  • Mentor and orient new nursing staff members.
  • Adhere to Standard Precautions and utilize personal protective equipment as necessary.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required - Magnet Facility.
  • A.D.N with Chief Nursing Officer approval and current enrollment in a BSN program, or enrollment within six months of hire with completion within 24 months.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Current TX RN or Compact State Licensure.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications are mandatory.
  • PALS certification is required within six months of hire.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Stepdown, Progressive Care, PCU, or Intermediate Care RN roles in an acute care setting; two years preferred.
  • At least one year of PCU experience is required (two years preferred).
  • Open to candidates with a gap in acute care experience, provided it does not exceed five years.
  • Basic knowledge of intravenous drips and EKG interpretation is essential.

Additional Information:

  • Unit Overview: 28 Bed Critical Care Unit, encompassing SICU, MICU, and CVICU.
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2 for critical care; 1:3 to 1:4 for general patients.
  • Patient Population: Diverse cases including Open Heart, Trauma, Burn, Vascular, and Sepsis. Flexibility to float through CCU, Burn, and Trauma units is required.
  • Work Environment: Focused on customer service, fostering a family-like atmosphere for patients, promoting teamwork among seasoned and new RNs. High acuity situations in a dynamic setting with accountability for service excellence.
  • Facility Culture: 24-hour Trauma Surgery Team, free parking, engaged leadership, and a supportive work environment. Utilizes Meditech for charting. A significant percentage of nurses hold CCRN and Trauma certifications. Offers self-scheduling, tuition reimbursement, loan forgiveness, certification assistance, and a 401k program with matching contributions.
  • Shift Details: Full-time Day shifts from 7A-7P (rotating weekends) and Night shifts from 7P-7A (rotating weekends).

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience. Night shift differential of $3.75/hr and weekend differential of $4.30/hr.

Sign-on Bonus: $15,000 (limited time offer). Relocation assistance of $3,000 available.
