Position Title: Custodian

Overview: Under the general guidance of a departmental supervisor, the Custodian performs a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks utilizing appropriate cleaning equipment and materials. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the facilities are kept in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, adhering to modern housekeeping standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts general cleaning duties including waste disposal, dusting, and surface sanitization.
  • Handles various floor maintenance tasks such as mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, and carpet care.
  • Maintains restrooms by cleaning and disinfecting all fixtures, replenishing supplies, and ensuring overall cleanliness.
  • Moves furniture as needed and reports any maintenance issues or repairs required.
  • Addresses concerns from students and other facility users in a professional and timely manner.
  • Participates in training programs focused on quality management and contributes to improvement initiatives.
  • Stays informed about custodial methods, supplies, and equipment to ensure cost-effective practices.
  • Fosters positive working relationships with colleagues and the broader university community.
  • Adheres to university policies and procedures while completing assigned tasks.

Qualifications:

Education: Minimum of a 10th-grade education; GED is preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to read and write at a 10th-grade level, with at least one year of custodial experience.
  • Capable of following written and verbal instructions and performing custodial duties independently.
  • Proficient in the safe use of various cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred; experience in a multi-building custodial setting is advantageous.

Additional Requirements: Completion of COVID-19 vaccination status is required.
