Job Summary

Kern Medical is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant I to join our team in the Cardiac Diagnostic Lab. As a Medical Assistant I, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare for exams and treatments
  • Take and record vital signs and other necessary measurements
  • Administer immunizations and medications, and perform office testing and treatments as ordered by the provider
  • Collect, prepare, and transport specimens for laboratory testing
  • Apply and remove bandages and wound dressings, and remove sutures and/or staples from superficial incisions or lacerations
  • Assist providers with exams, procedures, and minor surgeries, and act as a chaperone as needed
  • Use universal blood and body fluid precautions at all times and personal protective equipment as needed
  • Apply orthopedic appliances
  • Perform ear lavage
  • Act as a liaison between providers and patients
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and document all telephone encounters in the medical record
  • Prepare and process necessary forms for referrals and eligibility
  • Clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas
  • Order supplies and stock patient care areas
  • Submit requisitions for needed maintenance and repairs
  • Obtain and organize patient medical records, including lab, x-ray, referral, and other needed reports
  • Perform urine pregnancy testing
Requirements
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent and successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Possess and maintain a current, clean, and clear American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Some assignments may require Basic Dysrhythmia certification
Knowledge and Skills
  • A variety of techniques, methods, procedures, and equipment utilized in patient care
  • Medical terminology and metric measurement
Working Conditions

Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical. Depending on assignment, incumbents may be required to possess and maintain specific certificates of competency as a condition of employment. A background check may be required for this classification.
