Residential Support Specialist

Extended Families of Nebraska, LLC is dedicated to providing comprehensive day and residential services for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD). As a **Residential Support Specialist**, you will play a crucial role in assisting individuals with developmental disabilities within their living environment. The ideal candidate is committed to delivering tailored support that addresses the unique needs of each individual, fostering their independence and self-advocacy.
The journey to becoming a Residential Support Specialist involves a thorough application process, including interviews and an environmental assessment, along with interactions with potential clients. Please note that placement is not guaranteed and may take time. Ongoing training will be an integral part of your responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing services that respect individual dignity and rights, while safeguarding against abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- Customizing all services as outlined in the contract with Extended Families of Nebraska and the Individualized Support Plan (ISP) to meet specific needs.
- Coordinating medical care in partnership with residential entities, which includes scheduling appointments, arranging transportation, and ensuring compliance with medical directives.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and suitable living environment tailored to the supported individual's requirements.
- Educating and promoting healthy eating habits, particularly for those with specialized dietary needs.
- Offering reliable transportation that meets the individual’s needs.
Background Checks:
- Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Adult Protective Services Central Registry
- Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Child Protective Services Central Registry
- Essential Screening Backgrounds (conducted by a third-party consulting firm)
Preferred candidates should exhibit strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to multitask effectively. Proficiency in computer applications is essential, and familiarity with "Therap" software is a plus. A minimum of two years of experience in direct support for individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities is expected. Candidates must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license, have automobile insurance, and maintain a reliable vehicle along with home or renter's insurance. Access to a functional computer, printer, and scanner is also required.
