Job Title: Director of Human Resources

INIT Innovations in Transportation, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Director of Human Resources to lead our HR operations in Chesapeake, Virginia. As a world leader in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) solutions, we prioritize innovation, reliability, and sustainability in everything we do.

Job Summary:

The Director of Human Resources will oversee, develop, and maintain all human resources operations within our organization, including employee compensation, benefits, performance management, career development, and recruiting. This role requires a solid understanding of international HR practices and regulations, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven record of accomplishment in managing HR operations with an international company.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take an active role in HR operations, including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and talent development.
  • Promote a high-performance, inclusive company culture that reflects our values.
  • Facilitate open communications, offering guidance and consultation to employees and managers for HR topics.
  • Maintain employee relations, progressive discipline documentation, and facilitate investigations and grievance procedures, as necessary.
  • Maintain current knowledge and application of all relevant employment laws and regulations at the local, state, federal, and international level to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Work with the legal department to resolve complex employee relations issues.
  • Maintain and update company policies, employee handbooks, agreements, and procedures related to staffing, transfers, compliance, discipline, leave policies, benefits, and pay.
  • Develop and drive talent management strategies for our US and Canadian new hires with our internal recruiter.
  • Teamwork collaboration with HR staff for employee appreciation events and holiday gifts.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in HR management, business administration, or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role focused on developing, regulating, and implementing HR policies and organizational development strategies.
  • At least 2 years of international HR experience preferred.
  • Proven hands-on experience managing HR functions, from strategy to day-to-day operations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Experience with HR software and systems (e.g., HRIS), UKGTM preferred.
  • Senior SHRM or HRCI certification is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • In-depth knowledge of US labor and employment laws.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and reporting.
  • Expertise in critical decision making, strategic thinking, and process improvement.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
