Job Overview

The Fleet Management Division is responsible for providing comprehensive fleet services to various municipal departments, managing a fleet that encompasses around 8,000 vehicles. This division oversees asset management, maintenance, repairs, vehicle leasing, fueling operations, and additional services. It operates multiple maintenance facilities and works on a diverse range of vehicles and equipment utilized by municipal personnel.

Employment Type: Temporary Provisional. Individuals appointed provisionally must take part in a Civil Service examination for this role to be eligible for a permanent position. Provisional appointments are limited to a maximum duration of three years.

Job Responsibilities: This position involves skilled mechanical work on heavy-duty and off-road vehicles as well as power-driven machinery. Key responsibilities include the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of various types of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, buses, generators, and small engines.

Key Duties Include:

  • Perform maintenance, repairs, and servicing of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment
  • Design, fabricate, and weld components as necessary
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Respond to emergency service calls and conduct final inspections
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and procure necessary parts and supplies

Qualifications Required:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: A total of six years of journey-level experience and/or completion of an apprenticeship program
  • License: Class C driver license is required, with the ability to obtain a Class B driver license
  • Substitution: Completion of a recognized Automotive Machinist apprenticeship program is acceptable
