YOUR ROLE IN CREATING A POSITIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Heavy Equipment Technician possesses extensive mechanical expertise. This role encompasses troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and gas/diesel issues, along with some fabrication tasks. Key responsibilities include the maintenance, inspection, and repair of company-owned vehicles and equipment, as well as assisting with audits, inspections, and overall shop maintenance. Opportunities for advancement and increased compensation are available through ongoing experience and completion of relevant certification programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Guide and mentor junior technicians, supervise daily tasks, evaluate installations/repairs, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Perform repairs on-site as necessary.
- Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify and resolve issues.
- Service and maintain a variety of construction equipment, ranging from light-duty vehicles to heavy-duty machinery.
- Execute preventative maintenance in accordance with operational manuals and electrical/hydraulic schematics.
- Disassemble devices using hand and power tools to replace defective components.
- Test repaired machinery to confirm optimal performance.
- Fabricate, weld, and cut parts using arc-welding, wire feed, and flame cutting equipment as needed.
- Carry out routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication of machinery.
- Perform Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections every ninety days.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to MGE's policies, procedures, and software systems.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and following both oral and written instructions.
- Capability to operate safely in various weather and road conditions.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and extended shifts.
- Ability to interpret schematics effectively.
- Valid Class C Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in heavy-duty equipment service and repair.
- At least 4 years of experience with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and DOT/BIT regulations.
- One year of experience with air brake systems.
- One year of experience with vehicle electrical and computer-controlled systems.
- Experience in welding and fabrication.
