Job Overview

This role is pivotal in providing care and direct oversight of clients within the residential program. The position encompasses a variety of responsibilities essential for the smooth operation of the program, including managing youth meals, maintaining the facility, and ensuring a safe and healthy environment.

This is an entry-level position within the Youth Development Specialist series, which entails receiving close supervision.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises and engages with residents, participating in all shelter activities.
  • Conducts intake assessments and manages necessary documentation.
  • Handles incoming calls, offering information and crisis intervention while maintaining written records.
  • Assists in planning and leading recreational activities.
  • Transports clients to various community locations as needed.
  • Attends all required agency and staff meetings.
  • Monitors chore assignments and completion, assessing overall client behavior and attitude for daily evaluations.
  • Ensures the shelter remains orderly and clean, reporting any maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  • Oversees the self-administration of client medications, documenting appropriately.
  • Verifies medication during intake and at the start of each shift.
  • Consistently applies the program's Behavior Motivation system.
  • Maintains accurate client demographic records.
  • Documents daily interactions with clients and case management communications.
  • Prepares and serves meals in the absence of the cook, supervising cleanup as necessary.
  • Coordinates and organizes activities and events for youth.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Two years of general work experience, including at least one year in a full-time direct contact role with at-risk youth, or equivalent part-time or volunteer experience. An Associate's degree in behavioral science or a related field may substitute for two years of general work experience.
  • Must show awareness, acceptance, and willingness to work with the LGBTQ community.
  • Proficient in computer skills.
  • Effective planner with the ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills with a focus on youth safety and security.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information responsibly.
  • Must accept responsibility and follow supervisory guidance.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to build appropriate relationships and positively influence teens in alignment with agency culture and philosophy.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn and apply behavior management techniques.
  • Motivated to resolve conflicts involving parents and clients.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Background must comply with Department of Juvenile Justice requirements.
  • A valid Florida driver's license, clean driving record, and current automobile insurance are required.
  • Must successfully pass a competency exam related to positive youth development and other relevant position requirements by the end of the 90-day probationary period.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift 10-15 pounds regularly.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers.
  • Ability to hear and respond quickly to sounds.
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision.
  • Frequent driving is required.
