Job Overview

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Detention Deputy. This role plays a critical part in maintaining public safety and upholding the law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a uniformed officer responsible for the care, custody, control, and re-entry of sentenced and non-sentenced inmates at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.
  • Maintain accurate counts and current locations of all inmates, ensuring their safety and security.
  • Communicate effectively with other officers and inmates, utilizing strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior in all interactions.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Selected applicants will be requested to sign an Employment Agreement for a 2-year time commitment in the position from successful completion of the agency's field training program.
  • Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

Working Conditions

This position involves working within the confined setting of the John E. Polk Correctional Facility, Seminole County Juvenile Facility, or the Seminole County Court System. The role generally works a shift (days or nights) with rotating days off.

Salary Information

The hourly base salary for this position while in the Corrections academy is $20.00 an hour. After completion of the Corrections academy, you will receive the starting Detention Deputy salary of $58,024 ($25.95 per hour), plus potential additional holiday pay up to $2,800 for those employees who work twelve-hour shifts.
