Position Overview
Under the guidance of management and physician leadership, the Medical Assistant III is responsible for overseeing clinical operations. This includes ensuring smooth patient flow and facilitating the delivery of primary and preventive healthcare services. The role involves performing technical procedures, adhering to lab protocols, and engaging in clinically oriented tasks under the direction of healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the physician/provider by delivering primary healthcare and managing patient care effectively.
- Collaborate with clerical staff to enhance operational efficiency and patient flow.
- Engage with external healthcare facilities and agencies concerning patient care and insurance matters.
- Maintain current competencies and communicate effectively with leadership and accreditation bodies regarding processes and workflows.
- Perform front office duties as required to ensure coverage.
- Provide assistance in various departments or locations as necessary.
- Exhibit exceptional customer service skills, promoting a patient and family-centered care model.
- Take on at least two additional responsibilities that constitute 20% or more of dedicated time, such as:
- Identifying primary care gaps and preparing charts
- Participating in residency clinic roles
- Conducting high-level disinfection
- Serving as a designated preceptor for new hires
- Leading or participating in special programs or grants
- Engaging in care management activities
- Acting as a qualified language interpreter
- Functioning as a Super User for EPIC or specific competencies
- Providing advanced support to providers during complex procedures or scheduling.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, including clinical rotation, or equivalent experience is necessary.
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience is required, which can include twelve months of Medical Assistant work experience or a completed internship followed by six months of work experience.
- Preferred: 2-3 years of Medical Assistant experience.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA) is required within 90 days of employment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
