Position Overview

The **Lead Culinary Specialist** plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of meal preparation, supported by a dedicated team of Food Service Staff. This position is accountable for overseeing all aspects of cooking, food production, sanitation, and service of meals for early childhood programs.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Culinary Specialist will:

  • Manage the distribution of both hot and cold meals, ensuring that all food items are properly labeled and dated for each location.
  • Coordinate food substitutions to accommodate special dietary requirements as directed by the Associate Manager of Food Services.
  • Ensure compliance with the standards set forth by the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for all meals prepared.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in professional food service preparation.
  • Familiarity with large-scale commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Previous experience as a Head Cook is preferred.
  • Knowledge of purchasing and inventory management.
  • Understanding of CACFP regulations.
  • The physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, along with the ability to kneel, stoop, bend, and reach as necessary.
  • Good hearing, vision, and the ability to work in a standing and walking position.
  • A reliable vehicle for daily work-related travel (mileage will be reimbursed).
Certification Requirements

Prior to employment and throughout the duration of employment, the following certifications are required:

  • A valid driver's license.
  • Proof of current auto insurance.
  • A Food Handler's Card.
  • Enrollment in the OR Child Care Division-Criminal Background Registry.

Additionally, within 60 days of hire, candidates must obtain Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification (training provided). An initial health examination and periodic re-examinations are also required to ensure that employees do not pose a health risk due to communicable diseases.

Maintaining all required certifications is essential for continued employment.
