About the Role

The University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Extension Agent I or II to join our team in St. Lucie County. As a key member of our team, you will design, implement, and evaluate community-based education programs that improve financial literacy and help individuals, families, and communities improve their economic well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver educational programs to help individuals and families manage financial resources and own a home.
  • Work with beginning and established cottage food and food entrepreneurs on topics such as starting a food business, food safety, labeling and packaging, regulations, and financial management.
  • Collaborate with community agencies and groups to develop and implement programs that promote financial stability and entrepreneurship.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to food entrepreneurs and small business owners.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders to promote the work of UF/IFAS Extension.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices and research in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and community development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in family and consumer sciences, business, economics, financial management, or a closely related discipline.
  • Significant progress towards completing Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) certification within 3 years of employment.
  • Ability to work with community agencies and groups in collaborations and partnerships.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a leader and team member.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Resourcefulness, creativity, enthusiasm, and innovativeness.
  • High-level organizational development and management skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in using and applying information technology and communications applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in family and consumer sciences, business, economics, financial management, or a closely related discipline.
  • Previous experience with family and consumer sciences extension programs.
  • Experience working with people from various racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience creating lesson plans, developing instructional materials, and applying teaching methods appropriate for a varied audience.
