About the Role

The Florida Cooperative Extension Service operates as a collaborative effort among state, federal, and local governments. Our County Extension faculty are dedicated to delivering high-quality, research-driven education to promote healthy communities and sustainable practices. This position is designed for a proactive, enthusiastic individual who will take on the role of County Extension Director while also serving as an Extension Agent. The successful candidate will lead initiatives focused on small farms, enhancing agricultural profitability, and promoting effective land management strategies. The role will involve a significant commitment to program development and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities as an Extension Agent:
  • Develop, implement, and assess educational programs that adhere to Best Management Practices (BMP) to support sustainability and efficiency for local clientele.
  • Design and evaluate innovative educational initiatives tailored for small farm operators in the region.
  • Conduct assessments to identify community needs and establish program priorities, engaging local stakeholders in the process.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create and deliver both virtual and in-person educational opportunities that address community needs.
  • Explore and implement strategies for program enhancement, including fundraising and sponsorship opportunities, while ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Promote educational initiatives through various media channels to increase community awareness of Extension's mission and expertise.

Key Responsibilities as County Extension Director:
  • Oversee and mentor county faculty and staff, fostering a supportive work environment.
  • Manage operational aspects of the Extension office, including financial oversight and compliance with policies.
  • Work closely with local government to secure resources and support for Extension initiatives.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan that aligns with the vision of the Extension program and strengthens community partnerships.
  • Engage with community leaders and stakeholders to enhance program visibility and impact.
  • Ensure adherence to university and county policies while providing leadership in program management.
  • Collaborate with district leadership to maximize the effectiveness of Extension services across the region.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as needed to support the overall mission of the Extension program.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • A master's degree in agriculture, agronomy, animal sciences, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to exceptional service and community engagement.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience working with diverse groups.
  • Flexibility in work hours and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Commitment to the core values of the University of Florida.

Preferred:
  • Experience in a leadership role within Extension services.
  • Background in health-related educational programs.
  • Proven ability to manage office operations and budgets effectively.
  • Experience in volunteer management and team leadership.
  • Technological proficiency for effective communication and program management.
