Job Summary

GE's Power Conversion business is seeking a highly skilled Lead Field Service Engineer to provide technical direction for the overhaul, repair, and maintenance of marine and industrial gearsets, motors, and generators. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and successful execution of service requests, providing technical guidance to skilled labor, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to meet customer and internal requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical direction for the overhaul, repair, and maintenance of marine and industrial gearsets, motors, and generators, ensuring compliance with technical requirements and quality standards.
  • Conduct electrical tests on MV AC electrical motors and generators, including insulation resistance, winding resistance, voltage drop tests, and transformation ratio.
  • Perform tests and inspections, including borescope inspections, neutral zone adjustments, brush and brush holder tests and adjustments, and commutation inspections.
  • Conduct start-up and commissioning of motors and generators, including static tests, operational tests, and electrical parameter checks.
  • Execute assembly and disassembly of electrical components, including cables, capacitors, RTDs, surge arresters, fan motors, CTs, TCs, and winding.
  • Effectively communicate job-planning requirements, including risk assessment and technical requirements, to internal stakeholders and skilled labor.
  • Perform mechanical inspections of large and medium electrical rotating machines, including dimensional control, sleeve and roller bearing inspections, air-gap inspections, and metrology skills.
  • Conduct shaft alignments, including flexible and solid couplings, motor-gearbox/load machine, and generator-gearbox/turbine.
  • Execute assembly and disassembly of mechanical components, including rotors, stators, covers, heat exchangers, sleeve bearings, roller bearings, couplings, and mechanical seals.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • BS Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of field engineering or related engineering experience with overhaul and maintenance on marine and industrial gearsets, steam turbines, motors, and generator equipment.
  • US Citizen with the ability to achieve security clearance for Department of Defense projects.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 85% of the time to various locations in the USA and internationally.
  • Knowledge of GE gears, marine steam turbines, motors, and generators, with the ability to provide technical direction for overhaul, repair, maintenance, and testing for a range of equipment vintages, sizes, and application types.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively manage people.
Desired Characteristics
  • GE Field Engineering Program or Direct Hire graduate.
  • Maintenance and repair experience on GE and non-GE marine and industrial gearsets.
  • Maintenance and repair experience on GE and non-GE motors and generators.
  • Ability to make decisions regarding task completion and job methods, and follow through with results of outcome.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with internal customers, including Sales, Service, Manufacturing, Engineering, Finance, and Management personnel.
  • Ability to execute increasingly complicated assignments, requiring considerable engineering skill and creative ability, and independent judgment.
