About the Role:

E2 Consulting Engineers, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Substation Design Engineer to join our team in the greater Los Angeles area. As a key member of our Substation Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing deliverables associated with substation design projects for one of our largest electric utility clients.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in substation design, including yard layouts, plans, sections, and details, as well as grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems. Additionally, they will have experience with one-line and three-line diagrams, AC & DC elementary and logic diagrams, front and rear panel elevations and wiring, supervisory and control drawings, and electrical vendor equipment wiring diagrams.

As a Senior Substation Design Engineer, you will be responsible for providing guidance to junior engineers and designers, performing quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings, and coordinating design activities with other disciplines. You will also serve as a technical advisor for the team and ensure that client substation design standards are properly applied.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend project site visits to assist in the development of scope of work and help define project objectives.
  • Prepare engineering cost estimates and man-hour estimates and schedules.
  • Develop top-level documents for Electrical Physical and Protection & Control packages.
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers and designers in the development of detailed design documents.
  • Perform calculations for studies and reports, including grounding & lightning protection, and AC/DC load studies.
  • Perform quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings.
  • Provide short-term field support during construction.
  • Coordinate design activities with other disciplines.
  • Serve as a technical advisor for the team.
  • Properly apply client substation design standards.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional Engineers License in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required.
  • High-level understanding of Southern California Edison's substation design standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
