Oversee the daily operations of a crew engaged in utility construction, excavation, and grading for various projects, including roadways, urban development, and site preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
Champion the organization's safety protocols, actively participating in all safety programs and adhering to the responsibilities set forth by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams.
Uphold and promote the core values, vision, and mission of the organization; comply with ethical standards, workplace behavior, safety regulations, and other established policies.
Implement and maintain the company's safety initiatives, encouraging all personnel, subcontractors, and consultants to adopt safe working practices as part of the organizational culture.
Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to ensure that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
Organize and direct the daily tasks of the assigned crew and equipment, including delegating responsibilities and ensuring accountability.
Interpret project plans and specifications accurately.
Understand and follow surveying markers and plans, including slope stakes, control points, lines, and grades.
Guide equipment operators to ensure proper alignment and movement of materials.
Coordinate the supply chain for materials related to assigned projects, ensuring timely delivery to the job site.
Support employee training, mentoring, and professional development; address performance issues as necessary.
Operate heavy machinery essential for project completion; utilize company vehicles for transporting personnel and equipment between job sites and facilities.
Perform specialized tasks related to the assigned position, including but not limited to concrete finishing, utility installation, grading/site preparation, and paving.
Conduct administrative duties, including email correspondence, timecard management, and handling of documents and electronic files.
Ensure that equipment maintenance inspections are performed to keep machinery in safe working order.
Carry out minor servicing and maintenance on equipment, referring significant issues to the maintenance shop.
Complete timecards and review costs and productivity on a daily basis.
Adhere to all local and state regulations pertaining to construction activities.
Timely complete and submit necessary paperwork and reports related to project execution and employee supervision.
Safely operate company vehicles and equipment.
Qualifications:
Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record is required.
Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
3 to 5 years of experience in a specialized construction field or related industry.
1 to 2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
Proven knowledge of construction processes relevant to the area of responsibility.
Proficient in using computers and mobile devices, including MS Office and various applications.
Physical Requirements:
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
Frequent use of hands to feel, handle, and manipulate objects.
Regular communication (talking and hearing) is essential.
Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Ability to stand or work on feet for extended periods (8 hours or more) and navigate uneven terrain.
Regular exposure to heavy machinery and construction site conditions, including dust, noise, and various weather conditions.
Some exposure to fuels, oils, and other chemicals.
Frequent travel, including overnight stays, may be required.
