Opportunity Awaits, Apply Today – Rehabilitation Instructor for the Visually Impaired

This position is one of nine Rehabilitation Instructors in the Independent Living Department as a whole, and one of three Rehabilitation Instructor's in the Independent Living Program working from the Portland office.

As a Rehabilitation Instructor for the Visually Impaired, you will report to the Director of Independent Living of the Oregon Commission for the Blind. This essential work helps seniors and individuals who experience vision loss acquire essential adaptive skills so that they may remain independent in their homes and active in their communities.

The core program this position serves is the Older Individuals who are Blind (OIB) population. By providing in-home services, the client does not have to travel to their lessons but instead receives them in their home environment where services are tailored to their specific needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with an emphasis in any vision related field from an accredited university
  • Bachelor's degree or certification with an emphasis in any vision related field from an accredited university
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or a Social or Behavioral Science and two years of experience

Preference Statement:

Preference will be given to those with a Credential, Bachelor, or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility, or Low Vision Therapist or Vision Rehabilitation Therapist.

  • Excellent organizational skills, strong time management skills and commitment to attending to detail
  • Demonstrated experience working with seniors, adults, and transition aged youth who experience multiple barriers to independent living
  • Collaborative teammate with exceptional analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
  • Case Management experience
