Process Design Engineer for Inert Gas System

Kairos Power is seeking a highly skilled Process Design Engineer to join our Inert Gas System team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and documenting the Inert Gas System for our first low-power demonstration reactor, future commercial units, and related test systems.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain process design documentation, including process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and equipment datasheets.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including procurement, mechanical design, and operations, to ensure designs meet plant requirements.
- Lead the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process, evaluating proposed solutions and reviewing vendor documentation.
- Interface with external vendors to design and deliver process equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and document system design, modes of operation, required controls and interlocks, and maintenance plans for full plant life cycle.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar discipline.
- 7+ years of relevant industry experience in refining, chemical, or power generation process design engineering.
- Proficient in interpreting Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and process equipment datasheets.
- Experience working directly with external vendors to design and deliver process equipment.
- Knowledge of HazOp process and demonstrated experience designing with a safety-first mindset to create robust systems.
- Knowledge of process simulation and/or hydraulic simulation software.
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with occasional travel (up to 20%) and non-standard work-week hours. The salary range for this position is $116,400 to $137,000 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters.
