Audio/Visual Production Operator

We are seeking a skilled Audio/Visual Production Operator to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As an AV Production Operator, you will be responsible for maintaining and operating A/V equipment in our auditoriums and conference rooms, as well as providing meeting support for our staff and sponsors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate audio devices and lighting boards on APL video and A/V productions.
  • Operate analog and digital sound equipment, including mixers, microphones, and digital radio frequency wireless systems.
  • Operate projection and LCD wall display hardware and software for multi-image display.
  • Administer and operate Zoom meetings, including management of images, audio, and video to include cameras, USB capture devices, and video switchers.
  • Connect, operate, and troubleshoot unclassified video-teleconference equipment and collaboration equipment, such as Cisco, Zoom, and Logitech room kits for Zoom meetings.
  • Perform quality control on video and audio signals and ensure compliance with industry standards (SMPTE, CCIR, ATSC, etc.).
  • Setup and operate AV gear in indoor/outdoor settings on APL's campus, including loading, moving, and setting up equipment.
  • Operate APL vehicles to patrol outside areas and ensure that proper security procedures are being followed, including enforcing all parking regulations.
  • Support classified events in a closed area.
Requirements:
  • Possess a BA/BS in a relevant discipline (Communications, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering), or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years' experience maintaining A/V systems, or equivalent combination of higher education and experience.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Have demonstrated expertise in A/V systems operations, and maintenance, including projectors, signal routing/conversion equipment, audio consoles, and wireless audio systems; ability to test and troubleshoot devices and components.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of industry standards for audio capture and recording, video encoding and capture, and device and A/V control-system signal routing and connectivity.
  • Have a valid motor vehicle operator's license in good standing with the Motor Vehicle Administration/Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Have the ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Have the ability to lift up to 25 to 30 pounds.
  • Able to support working occasional after normal business hours to support events and some overnight travel required.
  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have familiarity with APL systems and equipment.
  • Have familiarity with LED wall display hardware and multi-screen display software.
  • Have familiarity with Mac and PC platforms.
  • MA/MS.
  • Expert-level programming using AMX or Crestron.
  • Design and management of A/V systems for buildings with multiple sizes/types of facilities.
  • Hardware- and software-based streaming codecs (Haivision, Vbrick, Zoom).
  • Experience with procurement and vendor management.
