About the Role

Amtrak is seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer - Fire Protection to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our passengers, employees, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement fire protection strategies for Amtrak's major stations, including Philadelphia, New York, Washington, Chicago, Baltimore, and Newark.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, such as Stations, Planning, Mechanical, and Transportation, to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Provide technical expertise on fire protection systems, including design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including architecture/engineering firms, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure project compliance with Amtrak standards and guidelines, as well as all applicable federal/state/regional regulatory agency requirements.
Requirements
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in fire protection engineering, including at least 3 years in the transportation industry and/or complex building.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent degree or years of experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or willingness to obtain within 3 years of hire.
  • Competency of building code, including NFPA 130, other relevant codes and recommended practices for fire protection equipment, controls, power sources, and SCADA.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience/familiarity with building systems beyond Mechanical, including electrical and fire life safety systems.
  • Project Management Institute (PMI), Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Understanding of railroad business functions, operations, and design and construction processes.
Work Environment
