The Senior Nurse Consultant plays a vital role within the clinical and regional teams, dedicated to supporting facilities in achieving superior clinical standards. This position entails the strategic planning and oversight of clinical operations and quality enhancement initiatives across assigned facilities. The Senior Nurse Consultant is tasked with providing education, mentorship, and validation of essential systems and processes for each facility, alongside continuous evaluation of clinical performance outcomes to identify priority needs and opportunities for improvement. This role advocates for the effective and economical use of resources to help each facility maintain compliance with all relevant regulations and quality benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaboratively develop operational strategies and objectives for the center on an annual basis with the regional/divisional team, center administrator, director of nursing, and other key leaders. This includes reviewing and analyzing clinical, regulatory, and customer satisfaction outcomes to confirm center goals and improvement targets.
- Conduct regular support visits to ensure the ongoing advancement of clinical operational goals and improvement plans, communicating any challenges to the appropriate leadership for necessary coverage.
- Ensure that the RAI (Resident Assessment Instrument) process is comprehensive and interdisciplinary, tailored to meet the individual needs of residents.
- Oversee that each center's Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives comply with regulatory standards, including the preparation of meeting agendas, data analysis, and action planning.
- Review clinical denials for admissions to assess appropriateness and identify training or program development needs for clinical competencies.
- Ensure that each center has access to current resources for all regulatory requirements and provide ongoing education regarding these standards to all personnel.
- Develop proactive educational and support plans based on comprehensive quarterly clinical systems reviews to enhance the effectiveness of resident care processes.
- Assume a leadership role in mentoring and educating the director of nursing to ensure professional development and retention.
- Provide clinical expertise in implementing policies and procedures for workplace safety, including infection control and hazardous material handling.
- Participate in center/agency surveys and assist in the development and monitoring of corrective action plans following any compliance issues.
- Uphold patients' rights to fair treatment, self-determination, and privacy, ensuring compliance with corporate standards.
- Engage in continuous professional development through educational programs to maintain licensure and stay updated on industry changes.
- A nursing degree is required, with a BSN or master's degree preferred.
- Five years of professional nursing experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing post-acute and long-term care.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance, performance improvement, and data analytics.
