Tutoring Position

This role involves working alongside Lew Wallace Elementary kindergarten to fifth-grade teachers to provide academic and emotional support to students through direct instruction, guided practice, and games.

As a tutor, you will be responsible for delivering small group instruction tailored to students' individual levels, promoting socio-emotional skills, and academic success.

You may also be tasked with preparing or organizing tutoring materials.

Key qualifications include being enrolled in a degree-seeking program at UNM, meeting satisfactory academic progress, and possessing strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree-seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters, and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred Qualifications

• Have passed the APS background check
• Be able to read, write, and follow directions in English (Knowledge of Espanol helpful, but not necessary)
• Be able to be a role model (model appropriate language and behavior)
• Be reliable
• Be available 3-5 times a week at the same time. (times can be adjusted by semester)
• Be available for a short training, possibly on a Saturday and some ongoing training during the teachers' prep times.
• Be tolerant and respectful of different cultural perspectives.
• Be willing to utilize positive discipline techniques.
• Be willing to follow classroom procedures and rules.
• Be able to stay off your cell phone while with students.
• For English speakers, be able to work between 8:40 am and 3:10 pm (to 4:00 if you work in Genius Hour)
• Be patient and have a positive attitude.
• Be able to ask questions.
• Be hardworking and self-directed.
