Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Preschool Director and in alignment with the overarching policies and objectives set forth by the YMCA, the Early Childhood Educator is tasked with supporting the lead teacher in implementing educational activities, ensuring a nurturing, well-supervised, and secure atmosphere for preschool-aged children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inform the Preschool Director in case of absence.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings.
  • Assist the lead teacher in lesson preparation (setting up learning centers, cutting out necessary materials, etc.).
  • Prepare and serve snacks.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and organization within the classroom.
  • Engage in cleaning tasks for bathroom facilities on a rotating basis.
  • Interact positively with children during outdoor playtime.
  • Willingness to take part in annual fundraising and community events.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Preschool Director.

  • Positive feedback from parents as reflected in their comments to both the teacher and director.

Qualifications

Requirements
  • The Early Childhood Educator must show a commitment to the YMCA's mission and values, demonstrating effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • A 40-hour state-mandated training course must be initiated within three months of hire and completed within the first year. An additional ten hours of continuing education will be required annually thereafter.
  • Strong planning and organizational capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills with parents, children, staff, and management.
  • Ability to assist the lead teacher in achieving daily educational goals.
  • Positive interaction with children is essential.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior experience working with children and completion of a 40-hour childcare course is mandatory. Preferred: Completion of the DCF childcare course prior to employment.
