Overview:

The Nutrition Services Distribution Assistant role at Barnabas Center involves providing essential support in the daily functions necessary for the effective management of Nutrition Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in organizing the food pantry for distribution and maintain accurate client records in the database.
  • Help with the reception, weighing, sorting, and shelving of donated food items.
  • Support volunteers with data gathering, setup, food distribution, and cleanup across various locations as required.
  • Manage hub delivery acceptance in the absence of the Nutrition Services Manager.
  • Fill in for volunteers during scheduling conflicts.
  • Participate in community food drives coordinated by the Nutrition Services Manager.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of pantry floors, freezers, and refrigerators.
  • Carry out additional tasks related to pantry operations as necessary.

Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities):

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Competence in computer operations and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Capability to operate a pallet jack.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for effective teamwork in a diverse environment.

Supervisory Duties:

This position requires coordination and oversight of volunteers in various settings.

Work Environment:

The Nutrition Services Distribution Assistant operates in a typical professional office environment utilizing office equipment and tools such as computers, phones, and fax machines, along with dollies and pallet jacks.

Physical Requirements:

The Nutrition Services Distribution Assistant must be capable of meeting physical demands including standing, walking, using hands, and lifting items up to 50 pounds. The role may involve working in different environments, including outdoor settings.

Position Type and Expected Hours:

This part-time role entails approximately 20 hours of work per week, with the possibility of evening and weekend shifts depending on operational needs.

Travel Requirements:

Occasional travel may be necessary, with up to 25% travel around the local area and beyond.

Required Education and Experience:

A High School diploma and a minimum of one year of relevant experience are mandatory.
