Anesthesia Support Specialist

The Anesthesia Technician plays a crucial role in assisting anesthesia professionals by ensuring the readiness and functionality of anesthesia equipment and supplies. This position involves operational support, maintenance, and the overall management of anesthesia-related tasks.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Candidates must possess specialized knowledge and skills essential for fulfilling the responsibilities of this role. A background in technical or vocational training is preferred, alongside a successful completion of high school or GED.
Experience Requirements:
A minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in a hospital or healthcare setting related to the Anesthesia Technician role is preferred, with experience in the operating room being advantageous.
Core Competencies:
Familiarity with regulatory standards, infection control protocols, and the maintenance of technical equipment is required. Strong communication skills and organizational abilities are essential, along with a basic mechanical aptitude. BLS certification is mandatory.
Licensure and Certification:
It is recommended that candidates obtain ASAII Certification within three years of employment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. **Anesthetic Equipment Management:**
- Set up and maintain anesthetic gas machines, ensuring daily pre-checks and calibrations are performed.
- Assemble and prepare specialized equipment for various procedures, including 3D echocardiography and airway management.
2. **Support for Anesthesia Care Team:**
- Provide assistance with equipment and supplies for cardiac procedures, joint and spine surgeries, and emergency situations.
- Collaborate with the anesthesia care team to ensure all necessary equipment is available and functional.
3. **Patient Care Assistance:**
- Aid in patient transport and positioning, ensuring the safe movement of patients and their associated medical equipment.
- Support the anesthesia team in emergency situations, including resuscitation efforts and equipment setup.
4. **Equipment Maintenance and Documentation:**
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of anesthesia equipment, documenting any issues for follow-up.
- Adhere to safety protocols regarding biohazards, infection control, and equipment sanitation.
Additional Duties:
- Participate in continuing education to stay updated on equipment care and maintenance.
- Assist in organizing supplies and materials within the department.
- Engage in special projects as directed by the Anesthesia Department leadership.
