UMHC-SCCC Plantation is currently seeking a part-time Magnetic Resonance Imaging Specialist.

The MRI Specialist is tasked with executing intricate procedures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the operation of MRI machinery to secure the highest quality diagnostic images.

Independent judgment, creativity, and initiative are vital to identify and rectify imaging artifacts and assess image quality by troubleshooting scanner or coil issues and adjusting scan parameters.


CORE COMPETENCIES

Obtains and reviews the order for an MRI scan to be aware of details such as requested procedures, patient’s condition, and any additional notes or comments.

Ensures that orders align with the type of examination recommended by the physician. Alerts supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician's office for correct orders if necessary.

Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and others who can provide insight into service needs.

Identify and verify patients by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical records and on patients' wristbands.

Always gather necessary MR procedure-related information from patients or their companions and educate/inform patients as needed.

Perform specialized tasks associated with the operation of MRI scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed safety protocols under the guidance of a Chief Technologist using age-appropriate standards of practice.

Ability to integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history, and medical records and adapt exams as necessary. Adheres to MRI protocols to maintain high-quality standards. Consistently demonstrates complete competence in performing MRI scans as ordered.

As needed during a procedure, assists in positioning patients in the required anatomical position to visualize the specific area of interest during the procedure using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.

Maintain proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (handwashing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection, and equipment disinfection). Assist Radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IVs, and injecting contrast if applicable. Assist Radiologist with interventional MRI procedures if applicable. Evaluate MRI scans for technical quality, collate processed/post-processed images in a specific sequence to be archived to PACS. Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant. Dispenses oral contrast to patients for MRI scans. Loads and operates power injectors for contrast media administration. Maintain accurate patient records.

Provide explanations of treatment to gain patient cooperation by educating and explaining step by step the entire procedure and allowing patients to ask questions.

Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist:

Children
Adolescents
Adults
Geriatric
Challenged/Disabled
Performs patient care i.e., assists with bedpans, emesis basins, etc.

Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiates basic life support (BLS) measures for patients if necessary; assists in "Code Blue" procedure during medical emergencies in the department.

Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies. Provides on-call coverage if applicable. Reports unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel. Assist in the department with clerical functions as needed. Help with orientation and training of new MRI technologists. Provides education and training to MRI student technologists. Abide by hospital/department HR policy and standard operating procedures (SOP) of the department.

Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH, and FDA/MQSA.

Assist with the day-to-day operations within the department.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program.

Certification and Licensing:
BLS certification is required. ARRT registered and ARRT Certified in primary modality or within one (1) year of hire date. State of Florida License as a General Radiographer preferred.

Experience:
One (1) year of relevant experience is preferred and will consider new graduates from accredited programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
