Role Summary:

The CNC Machining Specialist is a highly skilled tradesperson responsible for overseeing all machining operations and processes. This role involves designing, implementing, and promoting best practices and continuous improvement initiatives within the production machining environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure efficient and timely production of machined components within the designated machining area to meet production schedules.
  • Set up CNC machining centers and other necessary equipment to fulfill production needs.
  • Create, modify, and edit CNC programs across various control platforms.
  • Interpret product drawings, including GD&T and tolerancing specifications.
  • Develop machining processes for new components based on product specifications.
  • Utilize manual machining equipment for repairs and rework as required.
  • Employ standard manual inspection tools to measure components and instruct others on their proper use.
  • Analyze outputs from advanced inspection equipment to resolve machining process issues and enhance quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process-related challenges concerning part quality and tooling.
  • Perform tool changes and adjustments as necessary.
  • Assist in the introduction of new equipment through training and learning.
  • Monitor machining performance and cycle times to ensure production standards are met.
  • Mentor junior production staff and machine operators.
  • Train personnel in the safe operation of machinery to achieve optimal output quality and quantity.
  • Contribute to the design of jigs and fixtures.
  • Facilitate CNC program transfers across various machines.
  • Be available for overtime work as required to meet production demands.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in machining.
  • Completion of the BCIT CNC Machine Technician Diploma program.
  • Possession of a provincial journeyman's ticket or Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification Red Seal Endorsement in Machinist or Tool and Die.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a production machine shop setting.

Behavioral Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of cutting tool parameters and the ability to select and procure optimized tooling.
  • Good knowledge of GD&T principles and their applications.
  • Proven problem-solving skills through inquiry, testing, and data analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in various formats within the workplace.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and other company-specific software.
