Position Overview:
The Senior Radiation Therapy Specialist plays a pivotal role in guaranteeing that high-quality radiation therapy is delivered with precision and consistency, following the directives of Dosimetrists, Chief Medical Physicist, and Physicians. This position is responsible for overseeing daily operations and making necessary adjustments to maintain uninterrupted patient care. The Senior Specialist collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care continuity and acts as a technical resource for fellow team members and Radiation Therapists.

Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
* Conducts patient simulations utilizing advanced 3-D CT technology, employing positioning devices to establish treatment parameters before initiating radiation therapy.
* Administers radiation treatments in accordance with established departmental protocols.
* Demonstrates flexibility by providing treatment across various locations as required.
* Possesses a solid understanding of physics and human anatomy.
* Applies critical thinking skills effectively during emergency situations.

Event Participation and Coordination:
* Engages in community health screenings and events organized by the Cancer Center.
* May participate in Tumor Boards or Conferences as sponsored by the organization.

Team Development:
* Oversees the recruitment, onboarding, and training processes for new Radiation Therapists and locum staff.
* Monitors the daily treatment schedule to ensure adequate staffing levels for patient demands.
* Encourages professional development opportunities for Radiation Therapists.
* Acts as a technical consultant to Radiation Therapists and other multidisciplinary team members.
* Maintains up-to-date knowledge of treatment devices and various therapeutic options.
* Provides input on performance evaluations, promotions, and necessary corrective actions.
* Documents incidents involving patients or therapists, communicates concerns to management, and assists in developing corrective action plans.

Compliance and Safety:
* Responsible for promptly reporting any safety-related incidents using the designated reporting tools; participates in all safety training programs; ensures work is performed safely; monitors the work environment for potential safety hazards and ensures compliance among colleagues.
* Remains informed and adheres to state and federal regulations and organizational policies that pertain to the role.
* Ensures all required certifications and licenses are current and valid.
* Completes all mandatory training modules and job-specific training within the designated time frame.
* Reviews departmental charges to ensure all procedures are accurately accounted for, supporting hospital and physician revenue.

Qualifications:
Education:
* High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) - Required
* Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program - Required
Certification & Licensure:
* Registered with a State or National Organization in conjunction with Radiation Therapy - Required
* BLS certification (American Heart Association) - Required
Experience:
* A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist - Preferred
* Familiarity with Varian ARIA EMR - Preferred
