Position Summary:


The IFR Strike Team Pilot plays a crucial role in covering open shifts at designated IFR bases and supports the establishment and standardization of new IFR operations.

The pilot is accountable for ensuring that all activities involving company aircraft adhere to the Federal Aviation Regulations, Part 135, the Air Evac EMS Operations Manual, and all applicable state or local regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops a pilot information guide detailing locations, frequencies, and procedures for flying to hospitals and other EMS facilities.
  • Conducts local area orientation as necessary.
  • Notifies the Regional Director of Flight Operations if flight planning information is incomplete or outdated.
  • Operates the aircraft safely and efficiently, with a focus on compliance with the Rotorcraft Flight Manual.
  • Monitors weather forecasts and current conditions.
  • Performs preflight inspections of the aircraft before shifts and/or accepting any flights, documenting any discrepancies in the engineering log and notifying maintenance.
  • Reports significant malfunctions, aircraft damage, or injuries to the Operations Center promptly.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations, the Air Evac Operations Manual, and state or local regulations to guarantee safe and efficient transport.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of crew quarters and hangar areas in collaboration with nursing and paramedic staff.
  • Cleans and maintains the aircraft as necessary, working alongside nursing, paramedic, and maintenance teams.
  • Submits all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education

  • FAA Commercial Rotorcraft-Helicopter certificate
  • FAA Helicopter instrument rating
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current FAA Class II Medical certificate
Experience

  • Minimum of 2000 hours total flight time
  • At least 1500 hours of helicopter flight time
  • 1000 hours as pilot in command
  • 1000 hours of turbine flight time
  • Minimum of 200 helicopter night flight hours (aided and/or unaided)
  • 200 Instrument Hours (Actual / Hood / SIM) with 50 Hours Actual in Aircraft
  • Previous experience in HEMS or equivalent is preferred
  • 1 year of experience with any GMR Air company is preferred
  • H135 experience is preferred
  • Twin engine flight time is preferred.

  • Weight limit of 230 pounds

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Required to work frequently near moving mechanical parts
  • Required to work in outdoor weather conditions
  • Frequently exposed to blood-borne pathogens or airborne particles
  • Frequently exposed to vibrations/turbulence
  • Exposed to loud noise levels requiring headphones during flight
Mental

  • Ability to make quick yet sound decisions.
  • Ability to follow clear oral and/or written procedures without deviation.
  • Adaptability to irregular work pace.
