Role Overview

The Senior Product Owner plays a crucial role in optimizing the value generated by the Pipeline Operational Technology (OT) team within Midstream IT. This position entails aligning the team's strategic roadmap, backlog, and prioritized features with the requirements of business partners and stakeholders. By working closely with business leaders, product managers, architects, OT engineers, and technical specialists, the Senior Product Owner is instrumental in designing effective solutions that drive substantial business results for Marathon Pipe Line, Gathering & Processing, and interconnected value chains.

This key position offers the chance to build vital relationships, integrate various types of information, and convey ideas effectively while focusing on delivering value, embracing ongoing learning, and applying agile practices. Candidates for this role should possess strong skills in product ownership, guiding teams through intricate challenges, and delivering innovative, value-driven solutions. Experience in managing critical infrastructure within an Operational Technology (OT) environment is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure continuous delivery of value to customers through engaging and empowering experiences, taking accountability for a complex or critical product, or multiple related products within a portfolio.
  • Lead the development of product roadmaps, prioritize feature releases, and align them with business goals. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to gather insights, prioritize initiatives, and effectively plan releases.
  • Work closely with Agile teams, stakeholders, and business representatives to proactively identify and resolve challenges during product development, ensuring successful execution of the product strategy.
  • Engage with senior cross-functional leaders to address and resolve issues, promoting effective communication and alignment between business and operations teams, UX design, product, engineering, analytics, and customer support.
  • Organize stakeholder priorities and collaborate with teams to align needs with resources, ensuring synchronization with customer value, business value, and strategic alignment. Consult with the team during planning and grooming sessions and approve solutions.
  • Prioritize product backlog, processes, and release plans for multiple features of a complex or high-profile product, coordinating interdependencies with the scrum team and across other business lines.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure alignment around shared goals and objectives, and conduct ongoing analysis of product capability themes to support product direction.
  • Drive product innovation, definition, deliverables planning (roadmap), and design of new products to meet team and company objectives.
  • Interpret and communicate product development insights based on cross-departmental knowledge, placing the customer at the center of all product modifications.
  • Identify common client pain points and opportunities, defining appropriate solutions; capture stakeholder feedback and implement improvements; serve as the voice of the client, relaying that perspective to internal stakeholders; act as an Agile product development champion across departments and/or the company.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or equivalent work experience.
  • Product Owner certification is required; Product Management certification is preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant product owner experience is required.
  • Experience managing Operational Technology (OT) for critical infrastructure is highly preferred.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification is preferred.

Industry Product Knowledge: Possesses a comprehensive understanding of products and services within the industry, enabling effective communication of value propositions and informed business decisions.

Product Development: Involves the creation, innovation, enhancement, or improvement of existing products or the development of entirely new products to meet end-user requirements.

Product Lifecycle Management: Manages a product as it progresses through its life stages: development, introduction, growth, maturity/stability, and decline.

User Experience (UX): Refers to the overall experience a person has when interacting with a product, service, or system, particularly regarding ease of use and satisfaction.
