POSITION SUMMARY

The Dean of Students plays a crucial role within the administrative team of the Donald Ralph Cooke School, focusing on the effective management of daily school operations, particularly in attendance, behavioral support, and disciplinary interventions. This position requires a commitment to inclusivity and a readiness to learn and implement Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) strategies. The Dean will supervise the Youth Care Assistant assigned to the school and any additional staff as designated by the Director of Education. Responsibilities may also include various tasks assigned by the Director of Education. The Dean of Students reports directly to the Director of Education and is not eligible for overtime compensation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties exemplify the range of tasks performed in this role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary:

  • Provide individualized counseling to students.
  • Communicate with the Director of Education regarding each student's behavioral progress.
  • Maintain familiarity with educational materials and equipment used in the program.
  • Act as an emergency substitute teacher when required.
  • Assist the Director of Education in assessing and procuring necessary educational resources within budget constraints.
  • Support teachers in developing and implementing behavior management strategies.
  • Facilitate after-school behavioral intervention programs as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of academic facilities; report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Keep accurate records and fulfill necessary administrative duties.
  • Participate in staff meetings, team discussions, mandated training, and professional development sessions.
  • Work with youth to impart job skills, cottage responsibilities, and personal accountability related to educational objectives.
  • Assist in providing transportation for work, school, and community activities as necessary.
  • Contribute as a key member of the TBRI implementation team, offering recommendations for enhancement and leading staff development related to TBRI practices.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor's degree or higher is mandatory for this position, with a preference for degrees in Education, Social Work, or related fields. A minimum of two years of teaching experience or two years of experience working with at-risk youth in a residential care environment is preferred.

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $42,250 Annually
