Job Title: Utility Worker - Water Distribution

Hawaii Water Service is seeking a skilled Utility Worker to join our team in Kaanapali, Maui. As a Utility Worker, you will be responsible for performing field operations and maintenance work, including relief work under various classifications in the water field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform general clean-up of grounds and facilities.
  • Clean and paint station and treatment plant equipment and appurtenances.
  • Makes repairs to meters 5/8 to 2.
  • Investigate customer complaints.
  • Inspect services and facilities as a result of all types of complaints or investigation work orders.
  • Flush and service mains.
  • Inspect fire services.
  • Inspect double check valves.
  • Collect water samples.
  • Turn on and off meters.
  • Read meters of all sizes.
  • Record meter and service repair requirements and make necessary repairs.
  • Recheck meter reads.
  • Repair mains, services, and appurtenances, including all functions.
  • Clean and/or change meters 5/8 through 1.
  • Replace boxes and covers.
  • Operate system valves as required.
  • Notify customers for shutdowns.
  • Complete necessary paperwork.
  • Assist in setting, replacing, or removing 1-1/2 through 2 meters.
  • Locate company facilities to a minor extent.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or possession of a GED.
  • Construction or plumbing experience equivalent to a laborer or apprentice.
  • Must be available for call outs, evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Must live within 1 hour of Kaanapali.
  • Hawaii State Department of Health Distribution or Water Treatment Grade 1 Certification preferred.
  • Must obtain Distribution or Water Treatment Grade 1 within 18 months of employment.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Valid Hawaii Driver's License and good driving record required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of pumps, pump controls, and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of current principles and practices involved in water and wastewater systems.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, protocols, principles, practices, and procedures for water systems, and work site safety.
  • Knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting repair and installation.
  • Ability to communicate well with others, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specification and/or oral instructions.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to regularly interact with employees, public, and customers requiring common sense, tact, and diplomacy in order to accomplish assignments.
Salary Range:

$24.00 - $30.00
