About the Role

The Deputy Director of Operations will play a critical role in leading the Facilities Management Division at King County. This position will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the division, including strategic initiatives and special projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise day-to-day operations, including Building Operations, Capital Projects, Health Through Housing, Customer Experience, Security, and Communications.
  • Implement and promote goals, vision, workforce management, performance measures, and strategies.
  • Develop and implement an asset management system and energy efficiency plan to effectively manage County-owned properties.
  • Participate in the development of the division budget, focusing on aligning strategic priorities with current resources.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and create a communications plan and structure to enable effective and timely responses to customers on the status of major projects and initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and change, with a strong sense of how to develop and offer new products and services, and bring along others.
  • Utilize internal and external resources, technology, and continuous improvement techniques to report metrics, improve processes, create more capacity, and deliver greater value.
  • Recommend, draft, and advocate for legislation and other laws and regulations to support changes, evaluate new legislation for impact, and efficiently implement legislation changes.
  • Serve as Division Director in the absence of the director.
Requirements
  • Strong daily operations experience and background with a large facilities, public works, or real estate management organization.
  • Demonstrate a high level of self-awareness and be comfortable with their own strengths and weaknesses.
  • Be culturally aware and comfortable having complex and challenging discussions about race and diversity in the workplace.
  • Lead a changing culture within an emerging LEAN organization focused on continuous improvement.
  • Conceptualize, develop, and implement strategies, systems, standards, and plans for a wide variety of functions.
  • Develop metrics and use innovative visual tools to display division priorities and strategic initiatives in a clear and impactful manner for use in policy decisions.
  • Persevere and adapt, while working in a multi-faceted and sometimes ambiguous environment.
  • Create initiatives to develop, coach, and mentor a culturally and generationally diverse staff in a collaborative manner that focuses on employee engagement, good communication, and team building.
