Job Overview

Join UT Southwestern as a full-time Clinical Nurse at the GU Oncology Services clinic in Dallas, Texas.


This RN will coordinate patient care with various UTSW departments, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to arrange labs, medications, and procedures as necessary.

The RN will work closely with colleagues to ensure the clinic operates efficiently and provide assistance as required. A strong team relationship with the MD and APPs is essential for their designated area. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm, with no weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities

- Maintain adequate inventory of supplies necessary for the work area.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment to meet patient needs.
- Facilitate patient scheduling for all tests and appointments.
- Complete billing for all nursing procedures, including infusion therapy.
- Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and medical procedures.
- Prepare patients for physician evaluations and accompany them during visits.
- Administer medications as prescribed by the physician.

- Measure, record, and report patient vital signs using medical equipment; visually and physically inspect equipment and facilities to ensure patient safety and proper functioning.

- Collect specimens as ordered by the physician.
- Gather medical histories from patients through structured interviews in accordance with departmental protocols. Document nursing assessments.

- Record patient care interventions and education in medical records; ensure appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.

- Deliver nursing interventions to assigned patients that align with the established medical plan of care while observing and documenting signs, symptoms, and behaviors of patients in medical records.

- Triage patient phone inquiries according to physician and/or departmental protocols and document these inquiries and outcomes in patients' medical records.

- Exhibit effective communication skills, physical and psychosocial assessment abilities, and knowledge of how to access relevant health records to facilitate triage decision-making.

- Participate in evaluating the nursing needs of patients; assess issues affecting patients; recommend policy and/or procedural changes based on nursing expertise; schedule patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via an online system or telephone.

- Facilitate communication between patients and physicians and assist patients throughout the treatment process.
- Provide patient education, procedural instructions, general health information, and reinforce physician instructions both in person and via telephone contact. Document patient education in the medical record.
- Offer patient counseling based on specialized and/or advanced knowledge acquired through education and experience.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education

- Graduate of an accredited nursing program recognized by a governmental authority, nursing board, or licensing authority with jurisdiction over nursing program approval/accreditation (Texas BON).
- BSN preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of RN experience required.
- Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) nursing license.

- A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from a course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required.
