Job Title: Water Resource Control Engineer

Join the State Water Resources Control Board as a Water Resource Control Engineer and contribute to protecting and restoring environmental water quality in the San Francisco Bay Region.

About the Role

This full-time position is located at 1515 Clay Street, Suite 1400, Oakland, CA and reports to the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory). As a member of the Agricultural Lands Program team, the incumbent will:

  • Develop an amendment to the San Francisco Bay Basin Plan to adopt Tribal Beneficial Uses;
  • Serve as the Regional Board's Tribal Affairs Liaison and oversee its Tribal Affairs Program;
  • Develop and implement projects to evaluate and restore water quality.

The Planning and TMDL Division is responsible for developing and implementing water quality plans for pollutants impairing waters in the Region, developing policies to address climate change impacts on water quality, and developing projects to update and maintain the Water Quality Control Plan for the San Francisco Bay Basin (Basin Plan).

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent will:

  • Act as a lead for high-priority projects on water quality plans and amendments to the Basin Plan;
  • Lead the Regional Water Board's Tribal Affairs Program and serve as the Tribal Coordinator;
  • Develop and implement projects to evaluate and resolve cases of water quality degradation through development of Total Maximum Daily Load projects (TMDLs) or TMDL alternatives.

Requirements

Candidates must possess essential personal qualifications including integrity, initiative, dependability, good judgment, the ability to work cooperatively with others, and the ability to perform the assigned duties of the class.

If the position requires driving, you must possess a current and valid driver's license.
