Job Summary:

We are seeking a Power Electronics Control Engineer to contribute to designing and developing all aspects of Controls for Nextracker's tracker platform. The successful candidate will outline controller requirements, develop control strategies, and define supporting algorithms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Outline controller requirements based on system performance requirements.
  • Develop a control strategy and define the supporting algorithms.
  • Evaluate new topologies for controllability and fit to system needs.
  • Specify microcontroller requirements and drive part selection.
  • Translate algorithms into software implementation and work with the firmware team to integrate that into the firmware framework.
  • Develop dynamic models of the system and tune controller algorithms accordingly to optimize performance.
  • Test, validate, and troubleshoot controller implementation.
  • Develop and utilize computer simulations (Matlab/Simulink, HiL, SiL) to investigate new algorithms, modifications, or corner-case events.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary environment that includes electrical and mechanical engineers as well as supply chain, production engineers, service technicians, and product line managers.
  • Discover and capture requirements in conversations with stakeholders within and external to the company.
  • Support product updates and sustaining engineering activities.
  • Create high-quality technical documentation.
Requirements:
  • MS or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering/Computer Science.
  • Experience with power electronics system architecture design and control algorithm development.
  • Proven experience in embedded system design and programming (e.g. C language) for power systems, grid-tied controls, AC drive, or converter controls.
  • Strong skills in control theory and signal processing.
  • Strong know-how of drives and power converter controls.
  • Proficient in embedded systems and microcontroller peripherals: ADC, PWM, SPI, etc.
  • Expert in electrical/power electronic circuitry and control simulation in Simulink/MATLAB or similar tools in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
  • Experience with sensor technology and implementation.
  • Proficient in using lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, EMC analyzers, etc.
  • Expert in gate drive design for MOSFET and IGBT.
  • Familiar with hardware schematics and PCB design, and work with the hardware team to define software requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
