Mental Health Technician Job Description

At Darke County Recovery Services, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Technician to join our team. As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to individuals residing in our mental health housing facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Mental Health Housing Director in overseeing the operations of the respite/transition home and ensuring a safe and peaceful environment.
  • Participate in residential intake, discharge, and care plan development.
  • Monitor residents' adherence to program and policy requirements and record outcomes and participation.
  • Assist with room checks, administer drug screens, and maintain a drug and alcohol-free recovery environment.
  • Record client vital signs, notify the nurse of any changes, and continuously observe clients' behavior and mental status.
  • Identify behaviors that require intervention and perform client safety checks at scheduled times.
  • Assist clients with medical needs and demonstrate the ability to set limits and use de-escalation techniques.
  • Answer the telephone in a professional manner, direct calls, and take messages.
  • Maintain a team approach through communication, documentation, and planning with mental health housing staff.
Requirements:
  • An Associate's degree in a Social Services or Psychology-related field is preferred, or 3+ years of work experience in behavioral health may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Supervision available from appropriate supervisory staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, good customer service skills, and competency in areas prerequisite for performing activities.
  • Ability to utilize a computer to perform clinical documentation and generate written documentation in WORD or via email.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must also be able to climb and descend a flight of stairs.
