Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Traffic Signal Technician to join their Traffic Engineering Maintenance team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for performing traffic signal maintenance and repairs, as well as conducting preventative maintenance and inspections of electronic devices and related equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform traffic signal repairs and maintenance in accordance with established safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections of electronic devices and related equipment for assigned program areas.
  • Diagnose and repair electronic devices for assigned program areas.
  • Serve in an on-call capacity and respond to emergency situations within a specified period.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of traffic signal maintenance and operations.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize multiple competing assignments; keep detailed and accurate records.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of management systems to include timing plans, graphic design, and computer use.
  • Ability to serve in an on-call capacity and respond to emergency situations within a specified period.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand tools and testing equipment to perform maintenance on traffic signals.
  • Ability to physically perform hands-on inspections of signals, components, use required equipment, work at heights, in confined spaces, in proximity of moving traffic, and in inclement weather.
  • Knowledge of a variety of traffic control devices, signal equipment, and their operation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information orally and in writing and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and VDOT rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • IMSA Roadway Lighting certification.
  • Commercial Driver's License.
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Level I technician certification.
  • A combination of training experience or education in electronics or related field desired.
