OBJECTIVE

The primary objective of this role is to assess and facilitate appropriate access to educational facilities. The individual will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of students and staff within the premises. Responsibilities include welcoming visitors, overseeing common areas, and monitoring various locations throughout the campus. The Coordinator will manage visitor access and control entry points while assisting in the supervision of student behavior in shared spaces. This position may require flexibility to work at different sites as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilize and monitor the security camera system effectively.
  • Oversee various campus locations, ensuring proper access and addressing any removal needs.
  • Welcome all visitors entering the facility, as well as students and buses during arrival and dismissal times.
  • Support administrators and educators by assisting students in hallways during transition periods.
  • Supervise common areas and escort students as necessary.
  • Reinforce behavioral expectations and assist with disciplinary measures.
  • Collaborate with teachers in supervising students during lunch and bus transitions.
  • Monitor the Open-gate weapons detection system.
Perform additional duties as required to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public Schools.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

Reports To: Director of Safety and Security

Supervises: None

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent; Missouri Substitute teaching certificate required; Ability to walk long distances; Capacity to monitor video footage for extended periods; Strong and appropriate communication skills.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree; Previous experience with security systems and access control.

ADA REQUIREMENTS

Language: Ability to read, comprehend, and produce written and oral instructions, correspondence, and memos; Communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group settings; Strong and appropriate communication skills are essential.

Computation: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations using units of American currency, weight, volume, and distance.

Reasoning: Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; Solve problems involving concrete variables within standardized situations.

Technology: Proficient in basic computer skills, including word processing and data entry on district-provided technology; Capacity to monitor video footage for extended periods.

Other Skills and Abilities: Establish and maintain positive relationships while upholding professional boundaries; Exhibit excellent oral, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; Demonstrate strong listening abilities.

Physical Demands: Ability to communicate in a busy environment with multiple conversations and activities; Move throughout the building to interact with and manage students, groups, and visitors; Read handwritten or printed materials; Ability to walk long distances; Capacity to monitor video footage for extended periods; Ability to respond quickly in physically demanding situations.

Attendance: Regular and consistent attendance is a fundamental requirement of this position.

Conditions and Environment: The individual in this role will regularly work in a lively school environment.
