About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineering Discipline Lead to join our team in the Great Lakes and Mid-West area. As a key member of our Central Civil Works Department, you will be responsible for leading the structural engineering team and overseeing the design and construction of flood risk management projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize and oversee the structural design of flood risk management projects, including dams, locks, floodwalls, stormwater pump stations, and navigation floodgates.
  • Collaborate with clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder buy-in and contribute to AECOM's technical capability and innovative approach.
  • Oversee and review work produced by others, ensuring timely and accurate results, and following all quality control measures.
  • Seek opportunities to innovate and trial new methods, being inquisitive and forward-thinking.
  • Mentor and delegate tasks, directing and overseeing the work of others, and acting as a technical mentor.
  • Work closely with the multi-discipline project team, including civil, geotechnical, H&H engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, surveyors, and consultants.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering field, plus 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Professional Engineer license in one state in the US and ability to easily obtain licenses in other states via reciprocity.
  • Experience working on federal projects for agencies like USACE, USIBWC, FEMA, NRCS, etc.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • US Citizen or permanent resident.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters in Structural Engineering.
  • Expertise in structural design and construction requirements for flood risk management projects.
  • Working knowledge of federal flood control design guidelines, like USACE Engineering Manuals and FEMA's 44 CFR Section 65.
  • Senior Level: At least 15 years of experience as a Structural Engineer, with the last 10 years focused on design of flood risk management projects.
  • Principal Level: At least 20 years of experience as a Structural Engineer, with the last 10 years focused on design of flood risk management projects.
  • Leadership in at least one lock and dam system design project in the last 10 years.
  • A working knowledge of Bentley OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Flood Risk Management design and construction projects specifically for USACE.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
  • Experience in alternative delivery projects, not necessarily in flood risk.
  • Excellent understanding of the following software: SAP2000, Excel, CPGA, and GROUP management.
