Job Summary

The Street Utility Laborer will assist the Foreman in completing day-to-day tasks and work in any division of the company, including concrete, underground utilities, street, and/or signals.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Foreman in completing day-to-day tasks.
  • Digs, spreads, and levels concrete, dirt, and gravel, using hand tools.
  • Lifts, carries, and holds materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Signals operators on machinery.
  • Cleans tools, equipment, materials, and work areas.
  • Performs a variety of routine, non-machine tasks, such as removing forms from set concrete.
  • Spreads base material for sub-grade or preparation for concrete pour.
  • Pours and helps finish concrete.
  • Responsible for tying steel/rebar.
  • Positions, aligns, and joins pipe sections. May assist in the installation of pipe.
  • Controls traffic passing near the work zone(s).
  • Assists with any job duties involved in the construction and demolition of a job site.
  • Assists with blue tops/layout.
  • Always wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while on the job site.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience within the construction industry - Street Crew
  • Demonstrates a high level of strength and endurance, as the position is physically demanding
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness in the quality of the work
  • Demonstrates the ability to complete the work in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates good eye-hand coordination, balance, and depth perception
  • Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency in responding to all situations
  • Demonstrates the ability to work in a number of diverse locations, as work locations change regularly, and ability to work varying schedules. Overtime and weekend work are required, as necessary.
  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively as a team
  • Demonstrates responsibility in reporting to work on a consistent and timely basis
Physical Requirements

The Street Utility Laborer will be required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, lift above their head, and talk or hear. The position also requires kneeling, crouching or stooping, climbing ladders, bending at the waist, squatting, and crawling in tight or confined spaces. The work environment will be exposed to high temperatures, cool/cold temperatures, and loud noises.
