Job Description

The Street Utility Laborer performs a vital support role in our crew, working under the direction of the Foreman. This position involves assisting skilled workers in various divisions, including concrete, underground utilities, street, and signals. Key responsibilities include operating equipment, cleaning job sites, digging trenches, placing shoring, and performing labor-related tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Foreman in completing daily tasks
  • Dig, spread, and level concrete, dirt, and gravel using hand tools
  • Lift, carry, and hold materials, tools, and supplies
  • Signal operators on machinery
  • Clean tools, equipment, materials, and work areas
  • Perform routine, non-machine tasks like removing forms from set concrete
  • Spread base material for sub-grade or preparation for concrete pours
  • Pour and help finish concrete
  • Responsible for tying steel/rebar
  • Position, align, and join pipe sections and assist in installation
  • Control traffic passing near the work zone(s)
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • At least 2 years of experience within the construction industry, preferably in street crews
  • A high level of strength and endurance due to the physically demanding nature of the job
  • Accuracy and thoroughness in quality work
  • The ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Good eye-hand coordination, balance, and depth perception
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • A sense of urgency in responding to situations
  • The ability to work in diverse locations with varying schedules, including overtime and weekends
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Responsibility in reporting to work consistently and on time
Physical Requirements

This role requires regular standing, walking, and using hands to handle objects. You will also need to kneel, crouch, stoop, climb ladders, bend at the waist, squat, and crawl in tight spaces. Lifting up to 75 pounds may be required occasionally. Specific vision abilities include close vision and color vision. Ascending or descending stairs and moving on uneven terrain are common activities. Work is conducted on-site, exposing you to high temperatures, cool/cold temperatures, and loud noises.
